Vijay Kanal
President & Chief Investment Officer
Vijay Kanal is President and Chief Investment Officer at Stinson Capital Management. He joined SCM in 2015 as one of three partners, and assumed the leadership role in 2016. He has more than 35 years of investment experience with stocks, bonds, alternatives, options, and real estate. His expertise is in identifying the right mix of investments for each client, and advising on almost all matters related to money.
Vijay is a former management consultant at leading global firms such as Deloitte and AT Kearney, and was a corporate executive with deep experience in the technology industry, serving in senior roles in strategy, finance, and marketing. He also worked at Charles Schwab & Co. where he headed the strategy, finance and operations research groups for one of the divisions.
He holds an MBA from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania, with a major in finance, and holds a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, summa cum laude, from Polytechnic at New York University. He is an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR) and holds a FINRA Series 65 license on investment securities law. Vijay is also a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®), helping people analyze complex financial matters in divorce in order to reach fair settlements.
Vijay is actively involved with non-profits and has served on several boards, including Tandem, an education organization whose mission is to develop reading skills among young children. He is currently a volunteer with Savvy Ladies, an organization devoted to helping women with their finances.
His hobbies include photography, cooking, tennis, and reading anything related to investments. He lives in San Mateo California with his wife, son, and a Bernedoodle named Coco.
Magaly Nuñez
Research Lead
Magaly Nunez leads the research and analysis at SCM, analyzing industries, sectors, and individual stocks. She has 5 years of experience in the finance industry in a variety of functions. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Costa Rica, and her main expertise is analyzing macro trends in the economy, in individual industries, and in companies.
Magaly is a former Market Analyst at the London Stock Exchange Group, where she worked in the Collateralized Loan Obligation (CLOs) division, doing research, analyzing the market color and valuation for the industry securities, and working closely with clients. Before that, she worked as a financial analyst in the US pension administration industry.
Magaly's hobbies include traveling, reading and hearing podcasts about the economy and investments, astronomy, and reading about psychology and history. She has a rescue dog named Akira.
